Blogging using criteria

As you begin to blog about Jacob's Rescue  remember to refer to your criteria sheet. Creating a powerful response needs to include a passage or quote that clearly shows persecution occurring in the novel. This quote/passage needs to have made you react strongly in some way - angered, frustrated, devastated, in disbelief. Copy the passage/quote directly from the novel and include the page number it can be found on. Explain your feelings and emotions you felt when reading this and explain why. Go into detail as this will show a deeper level of understanding. A powerful response also needs to included connections. As everyone is now on their second novel, maybe more, you can connect to what you have already read. What is similar or dissimilar about the characters, about the events? Finally, leave off by asking a deep thinking question. What do you wonder about, what questions do you have? It might be about something we have talked about in class and you have been thinking about it, wondering about it? Maybe it is something that has occurred in the novel and you would like to hear others' opinions. This is the time to ask.

I had a WOW!! moment on page 89, when Yurek ran out of the building to get sugar and a shot rang and Yurek got shot by a German soldier. It really made me think hoe crewel they were, and think about loosing a family member how hard that would be especially to see it happen.

On page 96 i had a text to self connection were they were all wet and Mela said "here get into these nobody is getting sick" it was a connection to me because i remember when i was little i was wet from rain and my mom made me quickly change cause she didn't want me to get sick.

  2. "Papa, we're free! Free! I'm going to get some sugar and horse meat for us, so we can have a real dinner,".Yurek shouted as he ran out of the building."Don't worry!" A shot rang out. Alex watched with horror as Yurek crumpled in the middle of the street.
That passage made me go WOW just when things got better everything got worse. Who would want to see there son die in sorrow? If I was in Alex's position I would just want to shot the Nazi soldiers and get revenge. Why would the Nazi soldiers shot Yurek if he didn't do anything wrong?it doesn't make sense. The Nazi soldiers just shot innocent people for fun how sick is that. The Jews will get revenge on the Nazi soldiers for killing all the people they loved.

    "No!"Jacob shouted."It's not true!He's my father,"grabbing Alex's arm."You always have been,"he said to Alex.

I was so surprised because Alex is more of a father then Jacob's real father will ever be. How would you feel if you got taken away from the person you have spent years with, the person that you would do anything for, the person you love so much. If that was me my heart would of been shattered in pieces. Jacob lost mostly everyone he loved and he does not want to lose the Roslan's.

    2. This would have been a terrible moment not only for Jacob but Alex Roslan as well as Jacob's dad. On the one hand, how unbelievable would it be for you to find out a family member survived the war. Jacob would have believe all his family had died which would leave you with no sense of who you are. Most people need to have a connection to their families as this builds character. But Jacob also had Alex. This is like having parents who adopted you. Would you turn your back on the people who kept you safe, who loved you, you risked their own lives for you? The bond between the Roslans and Jacob would have been very deep. A decision I am so very happy that I do not have to make.

  5. "Mela and Marishka entered the room, with Marishka clinging to her mother.she had never seen such a emaciated child.

Why was Marishka clinging to her mother? What does emaciated mean? Why is Marishka the most emaciated child she had seen?

I was surprised that Alex didn’t look away when he was crumpled to the ground. Where did the shot come from? Did a nazi soldier shoot or did someone else shoot him

I was disgusted in the way that someone would have the heart to kill a kid, no matter what religion or believe, it is wrong to kill anyone at all, and that fact that it is a kid is worse. I was worried throughout this book wondering whether or not he would get caught. I had many questions that filled my head while I was reading. Why would the Rosen’s risk their life, to hide a little Jewish boy when they have kids, and problems of their own? If they had found Jacob, what would have happened to him and the Rosen’s? Why didn't they take Sholom to the doctor like they did with Jacob? Why did they care so much for Jacob? Why did they sell their own house so he could get better? What made Mrs. Rosen to give in to taking another child? What would it feel like to be Jacob, and never be able to go outside? What would it feel like to have a brother that could go outside and not have to hide when you do? Would I be able to handle all of the pain that Jacob went through? Would I even keep fighting to live, or would I rather just die?
W/T this made me think about when we read the story about 11.11 and how all of the innocent people were trapped in the building waiting for the death to come upon them, and how some just jumped out of the building so they didn’t have to suffer the pain. It would all be a very scaring situation which no one wants to go through, but yet many had to. They didn't have a choice whether or not they were going to die, and it didn't come from age. It was from one person who had a stupid idea and killed many.

    2. Wow, you certainly did have many many questions. This shows how much your brain was working as you were reading. The Roslans were very brave and they may have only been able to do so much to help without getting caught. That may be why they could only help Jacob and not his brother.
